Basecamp Hill Top is an experience before being a property.

Located in one of the newest and most exciting conservation projects of the Masai Mara region, Pardamat Conservation Area, it offers access to the first triple-use community-owned conservancy in the Masai Mara region. Pardamat, in fact, combines wildlife protection, human development and livestock as its three core activities. Normally in conservation areas livestock and development are restricted, but here they are part of the identity of Pardamat. This means that guests can spend time with the local Maasai and delve into their history and their once nomadic way of life, gain invaluable insight into the wildlife and how learn how the community now benefit from our unique tourism model. The 5 tents enjoy stunning sunrise and sunset views. It is simple camp, but part of a sophisticated conservation partnership between investors and communities that involves the guests and make them actors of change.

Basecamp Hill Top represents a pioneering concept: it protects the iconic African wildlife in peaceful co-existence with the Maasai traditional way of life.

Our guests experience the only triple use (people-wildlife-livestock) conservancy in the Mara region, where people, wildlife, and livestock live together in harmony.

The income it generates, supports these sustainable revenue models to secure critical land for wildlife movement throughout the Mara while creating higher education and employment opportunities, reducing livestock numbers, improving livestock quality, and providing lease payments to landowners.

Guests can enjoy the freedom and exhilaration of walking in the wild. It is a chance to get closer to nature, there is nothing better than exploring this incredible landscape on foot. It is a chance to see the smaller things that would often be missed when in a vehicle.

Guest can spend time with the local Maasai and delve into their history and their once nomadic way of life, gain invaluable insight into the wildlife and learn how the community now benefit from our unique tourism model. In the evening sit around the campfire and talk to the Maasai about how it was, how it is now and their dreams for the future.

All our projects ensure tangible returns to the local community, who are the guardians of this beautiful land. We are committed to community-based conservation & tourism, building a sustainable future for the next generation. Reasons to Visit Basecamp Hill Top

There are many reasons to visit Basecamp Hill Top and we have selected the six main ones to make it easier for you to feel the uniqueness of this safari lodge, where nature, wildlife and people connect in a special way.

Authentic bush camping

Inspired by the wandering lifestyle of the Dorobo hunter-gatherers (part of the greater Maasai tribe), we offer you the opportunity to enjoy several days of walking and mobile camping in private and secluded sites within Mara Naboisho Conservancy and Pardamat Conservation Area for a chance to feel at one with nature.

Redefining the safari experience

Perched atop a hill, as its name suggests, Hill Top Dorobo camp offers an awe-inspiring view of the expansive Pardamat Conservation Area. It’s here that we extend a unique invitation to experience the singular triple-use conservancy in the Mara region. Within this sanctuary, people, wildlife, and livestock coexist harmoniously, providing our guests with an exceptional opportunity to witness this harmonious balance firsthand.

All about Culture

Spend time with the local Maasai and discover their proud history, as well as witnessing firsthand how our unique approach to community-based ecotourism is offering them a brighter future. In the evening, sit around the campfire and talk to the Maasai about how it was, how it is now and their dreams for the future.

Get Closer to Nature

Enjoy the freedom and exhilaration of walking in the wild. There really is nothing better than exploring this incredible landscape on foot and learning to notice and appreciate the smaller details that make the Mara so fascinating.

Al fresco dining

After a morning spent walking with the Dorobo hunter-gatherers – and seeing the landscape through their eyes as a source of food, shelter, and spiritual enlightenment – you can enjoy a delicious picnic lunch in the shade of an acacia tree. Take in the endless views as the perfect accompaniment to your meal, while your local guides share bush wisdom and anecdotes. Evening meals are eaten under the stars by the flickering light of lanterns and a campfire.

Tangible Returns

All our projects are designed to ensure tangible returns to the local community, the ultimate custodians of this beautiful land. We are committed to community-based ecotourism, and to building a sustainable future for the next generation. By staying at Basecamp Dorobo and Basecamp Hill Top guests are contributing to the various initiatives we are proactively engaged in to benefit the local community.
