Saruni Eagle View

Saruni Basecamp’s luxury safari camp in Naboisho Conservancy, Saruni Eagle View, has re-opened after a significant refurbishment.

Reworked to make the very most of its commanding position atop an escarpment above the Mara plains, Saruni Eagle View has always offered expansive vistas stretching to the point where the plains meet the canvas of the sky.
The elevated position of this eco camp also offers guests front-row seats for the wildlife dramas that unfold around the natural salt lick and watering hole below the main area.
The innovative architecture of Saruni Eagle View has been further refined to ensure that nothing comes between the guests and the incredible views, and yet comfort and seclusion are assured.

Accommodation

Saruni Eagle View has nine Viewpoint tents built on elevated platforms: six are double tents and three are family tents that have two bedrooms each. Each tent offers raised canvas ceilings for a spacious feeling, soothing earth colouring, and a king-size, double or twin beds comfortably fitted with fresh white linen and indulgent duvets. Each tent has a private bathroom area featuring toilets and two showers, one inside and one open-air “safari shower”. All rooms have a private elevated viewing deck offering exceptional views of Mara Naboisho Conservancy.

Guest Tent

Reimagined to enhance the way the minimalist design merges with the natural surroundings, each guest tent at Saruni Eagle View provides a restful haven in which to recharge, relax, and relive the highlights of the day. Creature comforts consist of either king-size or twin beds, a shower and an indulgent sunken bathtub, while the bio-flush toilets are in keeping with the light-touch approach to sustainability. The private deck offers exceptional views out over the Naboisho Conservancy and provides a sense of oneness and connection with the wilderness beyond.

Family Tent

The refurbished family tent shares the innovative architecture of the luxury tents, whilst enabling the ideal balance of privacy and proximity through having two sleeping areas under a shared canvas roof. Each can be outfitted with a king-size or twin beds, and has its own bathroom with shower, sunken bathtub and bio-flush toilets. In-room Wi-Fi permits the instant sharing of safari highlights, while the expansive shared deck gives out onto almost infinite views of the rolling plains and isolated koppies of the Naboisho Conservancy.

Safari camps have traditionally functioned as launch pads for adventure, but the refurbished Saruni Eagle View is based on the premise that time spent in nature can be relaxing as well as exhilarating.

Elevating the restfulness potential of Masai Mara accommodation, the new lounging areas close to the bar invite guests to linger as they contemplate and absorb the beauty of the wildlife conservancy unfolding all around them.

Spacious and welcoming, and ideal for reading, writing and spontaneous conversations with fellow adventurers, these lounging areas are within arm’s reach of the redesigned bar, so essential safari refreshments are always on hand.

Amongst Masai Mara tented camps, Saruni Eagle View has always led the way in terms of the use of sustainable materials.

This helps the camp maintain an authentic sense of place, and also lends a thrilling impermanence to the structures. The memories made here will endure forever, but the camp itself could be relocated and leave no trace – the ultimate goal for any luxury eco-friendly tented camp in the Masai Mara.

Close to the bar, the plunge pool offers a similarly breath-taking perspective on the plains of the Naboisho Conservancy.

The infinity edge draws the eye across a landscape dotted with game, and the contemporary, minimalist design ensures a seamless transition from the manmade to the natural. The reflections of sky and savanna ripple in the cooling breezes that blow around the escarpment, and the pool is especially inviting when gently lit each evening.

The refurbishment of Saruni Eagle View has created what could just be the ultimate sundowner spot and the perfect spot in which to immerse yourself in the beauty of Kenya’s most iconic landscape.

The community-based tourism approach followed at Saruni Eagle View ensures that the benefits of each guest’s visit are shared amongst our most important stakeholders – our Maasai neighbours.

The sense of sanctuary is extended to guests through the spa and massage treatments on offer at the new Masai Wellness Spa. As with all the public areas of the camp, the use of a muted palette of browns and ochres underscores the sense of belonging, and the use of natural materials completes the feeling of belonging. The Masai Wellness Spa is the perfect setting in which to unwind and relax after another thrilling day of wildlife encounters.

Reasons to Visit Saruni Eagle View

There are many reasons to visit Saruni Eagle View and we have selected the six main ones to make it easier for you to feel the uniqueness of this safari lodge, where nature, wildlife and people connect in a special way.

Prime Location

Saruni Eagle View is located in Mara Naboisho Conservancy, and wonderfully secluded from other Mara lodges so that you can enjoy a more exclusive safari experience. Surrounded by 50 000 acres of pristine, untouched wilderness, the camp offers a classic Masai Mara setting. Regular wildlife sightings – including predators and nocturnal creatures – make for an unbeatable Kenyan safari.

Exceptional Views

The camp is situated on the edge of hill, commanding incredible views over the Koiyaki plains that stretch as far as the eye can see. At the base of the hill is a waterhole next to a salt lick, frequented by a variety of animals including plains game, giraffe, hippos and elephants.

Exclusive Experiences

Enjoy exclusive wildlife viewing on game drives, with only a strictly limited number of vehicles allowed in the conservancy at any given time. You can also experience the thrill of a night game drive and the chance to see secretive nocturnal animals as they go about their lives under cover of darkness. Close, mutually respectful interactions with the local Maasai people are also offered, as well as tailormade walking and mobile camping experiences.

Innovative Architecture

Entirely sympathetic to the stunning surroundings, the structures at Saruni Eagle View are based on a contemporary, minimalist take on traditional safari style. Nothing is allowed to impact on your view and sense of connection to the surrounding wilderness, and the camp blends in seamlessly. Your creature comforts are assured, while everything superfluous has been stripped away to allow you to concentrate on the majesty of the panorama and the smaller details closer at hand.

Positive impacts

We provide year-round support to over 500 Maasai families in the area through land-lease fees, employment opportunities and sustainability projects that are improving the quality of life for many Mara Naboisho community members.

Preserving a key ecosystem

Tourism directly supports conservation through daily ‘park’ fees – this revenue is the main source of commercial income for the community, used not only to run the conservancy but to provide members with support in areas like health and education. It also provides them with a powerful financial incentive to keep community land undeveloped and in its natural state dedicated exclusively to tourism activity, ensuring the wildlife can traverse freely and safely throughout.
